The Basics of Braiding
Braiding is fun, practical, and chic way to style your hair. It is a hairstyle appropriate for any occasion, whether it is formal, casual, or sporty. Most braids are fairly simple, and can be performed by people of all ages. Some styles of braiding, like the fishtail braid, require a little bit more dexterity. Practice is key when braiding; it takes a few tries to get the hang of most braids, but once you do, you will able to braid quickly and even without a mirror.
If you have never tried braiding before, start with the classic braid. Once you have perfected this, you should be able to ease into french braiding. Fishtail braids are the most difficult, but even these become second nature with practice.
You only need a few tools to get started with braiding:
Braids are easiest when your hair is long and only one length, not layered. If your hair is layered, small hairs may escape from your braid. That is where the bobby pins come in handy! With extremely short hair, these braids can be more difficult, although still possible.
On this website, I will outline the basic steps to perform the classic braid, french braid, and fishtail braid. With the supplies I listed above, and a well-lit mirror to check our work in, you will become a terrific braider in no time. Happy braiding!
