How to Perform a French Braid
1. Brush through your hair, ensuring there are no tangles. If there are significant tangles or knots, spritz your hair with detangling spray and gently brush through them.
Caution: Do not push through your tangles. This will result in split ends and damaged, dry hair.

2. Gather the hair at the top of your head smoothly into a small, thin ponytail at the top of your head. Secure this hair with a clear, plastic hair tie. Make sure this small ponytail is not visible from the front.
3. Create a small outer strand with each hand.
4. Cross right strand over your small pony tail in the middle, much like at the beginning of the classic braid.
5. Push what was the middle strand out to the right side. Gather loose hairs and add them to this strand.
6. Cross the left strand over what is now the middle strand, still in the same fashion as the classic braid.
7. Before crossing the right strand over the middle again, make sure to gather more hair in each outer strand. Each strand should become thicker and thicker as the braid progresses.
8. Repeat steps 5-7 until you have gathered all of your loose hairs and woven them into your braid.
Note: Once you reach the nape of your neck, you will no longer have to add loose hairs to each strand. From that point on, it will be a classic braid.

9. Secure your braid with a thin hair tie at the bottom. Pin back any hairs still loose with a bobby pin. For a long-lasting french braid, use hairspray to keep it in place.
Congratulations! You have completed a french braid. It should look like this:
